A Moorcroft colour trial ginger jar with a lovely bright light green, dark green, fawn and brown colourway.
The ginger jar has a height of 108mm (4.25'').
Regarding age this ginger jar has the 'leaf' year cypher on the base showing 2001 as the year of production.
The base shows the vase to be a colour trial item. Moorcroft pattern designs start as trials and are produced by the designer until a final version is selected for production or a decision made not to proceed. Some collectors concentrate on trial items perhaps because of the individuality they offer or because they prefer a trial version to the final product. There are also colour trials which allow designers to investigate how different colours work with each other. These may also be very collectable items, particularly as they are likely to be unique.
This ginger jar has been closely inspected and is considered to be in excellent condition. The glaze appears absolutely pristine with a clarity that highlights the colours superbly.
The ginger jar represents a different aspect to the design styles normally associated with Moorcroft, and offers a collector an opportunity to add interest and variety to a collection. Perhaps a collector interested in the production processes as well as the beauty of a item itself.
The ginger jar would certainly complement many modern settings where minimalistic designs seem to be the order of the day.
This Moorcroft trial item is available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view further Moorcroft pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples.
